The More You Do, the More You Learn!
Train for Success provides the optimum convenience without sacrificing
learning skills. Follow our guidelines below and you will use all three learning
senses -- audio, visual, and kinetic -- during each
session. Research has shown that the more senses you involve in learning, the
more you will retain, so we make all three senses a part of every class.
How to Succeed at Learning!
Learning skills employ all three learning senses: visual, audio,
kinetic. You can do this by using the SQ3R method of study (Scan,
Question, Read, Recite, Review).
- Review the lecture, skimming over the main
topics (visual, audio).
- Look at any pictures or diagrams (visual)
- Write down
questions that you have or topics that you want to focus on (kinetic).
- Print
off a copy for reference and review (visual).
- Use a pen or pencil to draw, circle, or
add annotations to the notes (kinetic).
- Take your own notes (kinetic).
- Ask
questions in the forums (kinetic).
- Use a highlighter to mark key topics (kinetic).
- Recite (verbally or
in your head) key points and answers to your questions.
- Complete the review questions and start your weekly
project (kinetic).
- Find one task of your own where you can use what you have
learned (kinetic).
- Write down any questions or problems that you have
(kinetic).
By following these guidelines, you will optimize your learning experience and
maximize your retention.
Minimizing Distractions
The largest barrier to taking online classes is often the fact that there are
so many things going on around you. Here are some suggestions that will allow
you to isolate yourself so you can focus on the class:
- Tell others that you are taking an online class and will sometimes be
unavailable while you study or attend an online session
- Make a small placard that says "In Training - Please do not Disturb" and
place it outside your office or on your desk while you are training
- Leave a small message pad and pen where so anyone who passes by can
leave you a note without interrupting you
- Forward the phone to voicemail
